A Biblical
Examination of
SCIENCE'S FIRST
PRINCIPLE
HOW
THE BIBLE DEFEATS SCIENCE
|
I will
destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will
set aside. I Corinthians 1:19
Let no man deceive
himself. If any man among you thinks that he
is wise in this age, let him
become foolish that he may become
wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before
God. For it is written, "He
catches the wise in their
craftiness"; and again, "The Lord knows the reasonings of the
wise,
that they are useless." I Corinthians 3:18 - 19
"In
that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise
and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so
it seemed good in thy sight." Luke 10:21.
The world uses science,
logic, and mathematics to argue that the Bible
is
wrong. We also use the scientific system to fight back, but
it has not brought us victory. Why have
we achieved so little with all our efforts? We
have used the wisdom of the world to fight the world. That cannot
bring victory because their wisdom is false. God is
catching the wise in their own craftiness. He uses their own
wisdom to defeat
them. The Bible
has a simple triumphant answer to the scientific system.
The biblical answer
is the rejection of an idea Peter predicted almost two thousand
years ago. This idea is the historical presupposition
for the scientific system, the foundation for the
entire structure of scientific reasoning. Most of us are
unaware of
this assumption because we are trained in school to hold it as
self-evident. Various biblical passages contradict this little
idea directly and indirectly. The simple
evidence clearly shows that all matter changes relationally as it
ages. (Every
atom in distant galaxies beats a different tempo than local
atoms. Countless orbits in billions of galaxies defy the laws of
physics.) God, without using
any deception, and in full
conformity with His Word, even defeats mathematics and logic so that
simple faith in Jesus alone will triumph. "but we speak
God's
wisdom
in a mystery, the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages
to our glory;" I Corinthians 2:7
Why would God make a
universe where science will inevitably fail? He does not hide Himself.
Anyone can see in nature the evidence for His power and wisdom in the
things He has made. Yet such knowledge does not bring us into a
personal relationship with the Creator. 1 Corinthians 1:21 For since
in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know
God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message
preached to save those who believe.
He wants us to have faith
in Jesus, the one who came to die for our sins. Such faith pleases God
because it reflects back on Him. True faith does not trust in human
institutions, our own goodness or works, but in God's promises to save
those who believe in the atonement that Jesus made.
The first
section in this page is my testimony of how, from the words of the
Bible, I came to grips with the elementary assumption for Western
science.
The section
on Biblical Physics concerns the biblical principle of change,
fundamental change, the emerging properties of matter.
The
section on First principles is about the metaphysical assumption upon
which science was founded.
The
next two sections deal with evidence - astronomical and geological.
Biblical physics allows one to interpret the universe simply, using
the light from the long ago cosmos.
Young Earth
Creationists (YEC) and Old Earth Creationists (OEC) struggle with the
length of creation days. Both groups accept Western ideas about time.
The Western concept of time developed more than a thousand years after
the completion of the Bible. Read
essays on the duration of creation days, interpreted as a
contemporary would, rather than tailored to fit science.
Who
is
Victor
McAllister? I am not an
academic. I have no degrees. What gives me the right to
claim that the scientific system is based on a false first
principle? Do I have a right to
interpret the Bible
with grammar, in its historical context, or must I tailor it to fit our
science? Do I have the
right to accept the visible history of the universe? My claim is
that if I interpret the Bible historically and grammatically, there is
a
simple answer to the
conflict between science and the
biblical text. The answer involves the historical first principle
of
science. God will get great glory and honor
when He defeats the pride of man and their mighty fortress
of scientific reasoning. He expects us to do battle with the most
powerful weapon ever forged, God's unchanging Word. "We are
destroying speculations and every
lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God" II
Corinthians
10:5.
