Changing Earth Creationists

Earth from Apollo 17Over the past 150 years, the evidence of great age from fossils, rocks and distant galaxies has perplexed creationists. This is because the biblical genealogies, when added to the classical-age year-count, amounts to only 6,000 years. Old Age Creationists (OEC) accept the evidence for an ancient universe. They claim that creation days were really billions of years. Young Earth Creationists (YEC) reject the evidence for an ancient universe. They claim that the universe is young and creation days had 24-hour durations.

A Pastor / Bible-school teacher asked me to provide a name for the way I interpret creation evidence. I chose the name "Changing Earth Creationists" (CEC). Changing Earth Creation is simple and comprehensive, affecting our interpretation of the creation text and subsequent earth history. CEC presents a simple answer to Earth's age that fits the visible evidence and the biblical text.

1. Like OEC and YEC, CECs claim to interpret the Bible literally. However, CECs interpret the words in the historical way ancient people understood time and earth history.

2. A CEC understanding of Earth history is not based on the foundational assumption of science. The Apostle Peter predicted that in the last days mockers will come interpreting the age of the heavens and earth's geology with the idea that all things remain the same. The notion that the properties of matter are fixed, not emerging, is the historical basis for scientific definitions, measuring units, methods, mathematical constants and earth histories. Interpreting the same evidence with simple biblical principles results in a completely different world-view.

3. Changing Earth Creationists accept that everything is changing. The Apostle Paul stated that the whole creation is in bondage to change (Greek phthora). The evidence to support this is neither mathematical nor difficult. With telescopes, we directly compare the past with the present. In all parts of the light spectrum, we observe billions of primordial galaxies just as they were eons ago. Except during energetic ejections, primordial galaxies shone at tiny fractions of the light frequencies of modern atoms. Because CECs admit that what is visible is real, they can interpret the Bible without tailoring the text to fit science.

For example, the Old Testament states three times (in Hebrew) that the earth stretches out in unbroken continuity. Simple evidence suggests that the Earth has increased in size. An undersea, global seam oozes basalt that solidifies into new earth-crust. Two thirds of the Earth's crust formed later than the continents, in the oceans. The continents only fit together on a minuscule globe without major seas. The theory of subduction is denied by the layered, undisturbed sediments in the "subduction trenches." The earth cannot continue to grow unless the properties of core atoms are emerging more radically than crustal atoms. Someone might ask, where did the water come from to fill new oceans? Genesis explains that Earth's waters separated - some above a spreading atmosphere (shamayim raqiya). The next day surface waters were gathered into one place (seeped underground). Later from these two water reservoirs, a catastrophe destroyed the ancient world.

We confirm that core atoms change at different rates from outlying atoms because we observe galactic history exactly as it happened. We see that perhaps a trillion galaxies wallpaper the distant sky. Just as in the Genesis account, the plural heavens (shamayim) were created first. Later God began to form the stars and to continually place them in the shamayim raqiya, the places that spread out. The earliest spiral galaxies were naked, without starry appendages. At closer ranges we see that equally spaced globs surround the ancient cores. At many ranges, in billions of galaxies, we observe that the globs accelerated out, spread out, as galaxies grew into huge, dusty, local, growth-spirals. Clearly the heavens are ancient (Greek ekpalai), just as the Apostle Peter stated. Ekpalai is a compound word for ek - to come out - palai, palin, pale that describe ancient rotations and oscillations. (Even in local galaxies, we sometimes see pulsed jets shooting out from active galactic cores.) Galaxies cannot grow, taking up more space, as the stars accelerate out unless the properties of matter are emerging from their tohu-bohu state in the core. When we compare spiral galaxies at many ranges, we observe a rough correlation between the accelerating atomic clocks and the accelerating star streams. Apparently orbits are clock-like because atomic clocks and orbits both accelerate together.

CECs accept that the Earth has great age, just like the literal text of the Bible states. However, the Earth has only orbited the Sun about 6,000 times. Is time speeding up? No person during Moses day could even imagine that time is a flow, something detectable and real. Solomon clearly states that olam (long time) is in our minds. Ancient people constructed their time ideas from the cycles of the heavenly bodies, which they believed were degenerating. People today construct their time-idea from perpetual motion atomic clocks. They even use these clocks to measure Earth's orbit. Yet many astronomers, over the centuries, measured a gradually decreasing solar parallax as though our orbit continues to spiral outward. Someone might demand, even if the properties of matter are changing, you need an impetus to push the earth outward. We call the force that keeps the earth orbiting, gravity. What distinguishes a CEC understanding of Earth history is the rejection of science's first principle. This first principle is extremely important, since it is the foundation for the entire structure. Yet it has no foundation, being a mere assumption. Once you reject this assumption, you will be able to separate real evidence from assumption-dependent provenances. CEC evidence is visible in the shamayim raqiya, the spreading galaxies. You do not have to be a mathematician to observe and accept the visible history of the universe. The scientific universe is 99% unnatural invisible things (never detected anywhere) to protect their first principle.

What will happen when Christians consider a CEC interpretation of Earth history? I predict that a great cultural war will break out. When our obedience is complete, we will use the greatest weapon ever forged, God's Word, to bring down the great fortress of speculative reasoning raised up against the knowledge of God (western science). We will win this war because a biblical cosmic history is visible, whereas a scientific cosmic history is constructed out of mathematical symbols and is largely invisible. Think about it.
